Situated at a leafy corner near an international school in the heart of Bangkok, Insomnia by Mulberry House is a luxurious and cosy café for flower, coffee and tree lovers.
Founded to accommodate the parents of Mulberry House International pre-school students, so they can have a comfortable corner to wait in for their children and to socialise with other parents, Insomnia by Mulberry House has now expanded into a lovely, airy, cozy café, suitable for anyone who wants a quiet place to read, work or conduct a private gathering.
The charming café, which is surrounded by leafy vegetation, is only a short walk from the downtown department store Central Chidlom and Chidlom BTS station. The interior is tastefully decorated like a lush, luxurious, cozy living room in a private house. The owner is passionate about traveling. Therefore, collectibles from around the world can be seen on display. The style could be called ‘eclectic’ with a combination of vintage sofas, modern chairs, and chandeliers. Distinctive furniture such as sofas and chairs using fabrics from Jim Thompson are grouped at the corners of the room. Real plants and flowers are keys to the ‘Bring the Outside In’ decoration theme.
In addition to the common area of the café, there is also a private room that accommodates up to 30 guests. Elegantly decorated in the same theme, it is suitable for birthday parties, meetings, and workshops.
The drink menu focuses on simple beverages, such as organic coffee, teas, or café signatures like ‘My Rose’, which blends pineapple juice, rose tea, rose syrup, and lemon juice. The dessert menu presents only homemade recipes, ones the owner makes for the family such as signature waffles, which are freshly baked, served with honey and fresh strawberries. Another recommended signature dish is the super moist carrot cake, filled with walnuts and rich cream cheese.
Insomnia by Mulberry House opens Monday to Saturday, from 7 am-5 pm. On a regular day with no special activity, if you want to avoid bigger crowds, stay away during the early morning or early afternoon. From my personal experience, later in the afternoon is best—then the café turned into my (almost) private reading room.
