The architect, interior designer and landscape designer is auctioning his artworks, with online bids running until June 30.
Best known as an architect, interior designer and landscape designer who has brought to life over 200 resorts, hotels and palaces in more than 30 countries, Bill Bensley is also a talented artist.
Bensley’s first exhibition of artworks, which he painted over the past three years during his travels across Asia and in his studio Baan Botanica in Bangkok, is called “The Outsider Art of Bill Bensley.” The exhibition will open in the RCB Galleria at River City Bangkok in September. There, 90 pieces will be presented in five chapters: Environmentalism, Pestilence, Racism, Idiosyncratic behaviours of the LGBTQ community, and Dreams.
In advance of the exhibition, 10 of Bensley’s paintings have been personally selected by the artist for an international auction. As with the artworks sold at the exhibition, a minimum of 80% of the sales proceeds will be donated to the Shinta Mani Foundation and Wildlife Alliance.
Commenting on the exhibition and auction, Bensley said, “This is my first ever public exhibition and I am intrepid! I have always loved art, and been envious of great artists as they make it look so easy. I enjoy art that seems accessible – that I feel as though I could do it myself. I suppose that is why I have always liked the genre of Outsider art as it welcomes one and all, while still holding a challenge for the artist. Art is, to me, very much about storytelling, teaching, and making a difference – I paint, always, to raise funds for people in need, and to protect our Mother Earth, via the Wildlife Alliance and Shinta Mani Foundation.”
Ten paintings from the upcoming exhibition “The Outsider Art of Bill Bensley” opened for bidding on June 5, World Environment Day, and bids will be accepted until Wednesday, June 30 at midnight Bangkok time.
