50 Best have launched a number of new initiatives since COVID-19 has devastated the hospitality industry over the last 18 months, but their latest “Champions of Change” awards, highlight local heroes who have yet received International recognition for their charitable, meaningful and activist activities.

On 6 July, 2021 – 50 Best unveils three winners of a brand new initiative called Champions of Change;

Kurt Evans – Chef, artist-activist and social entrepreneur in Philadelphia, US, using his culinary skills to rally the community around ending mass incarceration

Champions of Change, will be part of the forthcoming The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021 programme, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021 awards will be hosted in the city of Antwerp in Flanders – the Flemish-speaking northern region of Belgium – on Tuesday, 5th October. Returning after a year’s hiatus, an extensive event programme in Flanders will culminate in the Antwerp awards ceremony, representing a key milestone in the ongoing revival of the restaurant sector.

The question is; How will these rewards benefit our Champions of Change winners other than the recognition well deserved? Well, a substantial donation will be made to each of the winners’ causes from the 50 Best for Recovery Fund, allowing the recipients to continue building their initiatives and supporting long-term progress in the restaurant and food sphere.

Foodies will be curious to see how their favourite championing chefs will be able to further progress and develop on their original grass-roots efforts, once prize-winning funds and effects of a new-found global appreciation kicks-in! We can only wish them the very best. #SaveOurRestaurants.
