A familiar name among long-term foodies in Bangkok, Chef Som was the force behind the kitchen for two of Bangkok’s well known restaurants; Karmakamet Diner and Karmakamet Conveyance. The two restaurants did not have the chance to make it through the most intense periods of the pandemic and the strict regulations imposed..
With time on her side to think about her next move, Chef Som took a trip to Hua Hin. It was here Chef Som discovered the historical house by Khao Tao seaside and instantly fell in love with it. Newly inspired, Chef Som decided that this location would be where she would open her own restaurant, and under her own title concept, ‘SOM’S TABLE’.
The double story 80-year-old wooden heritage house lies amidst local seaside residents’ homes and has a stunning, uninterrupted view of cream sands and admiral blue sea waters, framed by moored fisherman boats and coconut trees.
It took several months to restore the home into a stunning restaurant. Chef Som thought it imperative to retain the house’s age-old beauty but with keeping within a minimal and modern sophisticated style. Guests at SOM’S TABLE may enjoy drinking wine and cocktails on the front lawn facing the calming sea view or admire the vibrant edible garden with herbs, flowers and vegetables which they will find the same garden ingredients in their daily menus.
The menu available at SOM’S TABLE is an A La Carte, Carte Blanche Menu, meaning “according to the menu or chef”, which changes daily to weekly based on what the Chef creates and availability of fresh produce. The comforting dishes are designed to bring the feeling of warm familiarity, with portions friendly for sharing, and notwithstanding the professional skill set and personal flair of Chef Som. These meals are also fitting to pair with the selections of a fine wine list which Chef Som curates in order to compliment the SOM’S TABLE dining experience.
It’s been 7 months since Chef Som opened her doors and from mixed reviews for a short week or two, has now become endless months of almost-full to full bookings, mostly with Bangkokians eager to try Chef Som’s food and curious Hua Hin locals looking to also to appreciate the mesmerising beachside setting. With a view and menu which has attracted a string of celebrities, bloggers but notably, serious foodies on the hunt for the best meals in Hua Hin.
Chef Som’s dishes may appear simply casual but everything has her unique, special touch, meaning underlying complexities in flavours, with sauces made from scratch, on top of choice freshness produce like seafood, steak cuts and a selection of herbs which come directly from her garden. Chef Som’s hand rolled pasta, homemade breads and pastry specials have become lust-for foodies items.
