Who would have figured that one day we would see fresh durian and other foods made from durian available inside a hotel?

Durian, known as the King of Fruits, is adored by many and is yet equally despised.

The fruit is known for its stinky and pungent flavour, described by Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain as something between the taste of onion, garlic, avocado, and pineapple, all combined with a custardy texture. Due to the strong smell, the fruit is famously prohibited in many public places. Notably by signs indicating a ban on the robust prickly fruit.

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Hotel, however, dares to do something different, introducing the “Durian Decadent Afternoon Tea,” highlighting the controversial durian’s exquisite flavours and exotic appeal to both locals and international visitors.

Guests are invited to experience either the premium-quality durians from Toby Durian Farm in an array of durian-infused delights for Afternoon Tea such as:

  • Durian Chiffon Cake (Bangkok Foodies’ choice)
  • Durian Tiramisu (Bangkok Foodies’ choice)
  • Durian Gelato (Bangkok Foodies’ choice)
  • Durian Look Choop
  • Durian Sticky Rice
  • Durian Smoothies

Or, for those who prefer the whole stinking fruit, ditch the sugary sweets and opt for fresh and creamy premium durians, which are also available as whole fruit take-home options. Bangkok Foodies was impressed by the durian’s taste, odours, and texture. Through years of agricultural development and dedication, Toby Durian Farm stands out for its unwavering commitment to producing durians of high quality and exceptional flavour.

Toby’s Durians are of the Mon Thong variety.  Why is that? According to Khun Toby, owner of Toby Durian Farm, Mon Thong has a unique flavour that is perfect for the brave-hearted beginners who may consider their ascent – or descent – to durian gourmand.
